Schools out- gas prices are up - summer bummer!

June 26, 2008 / by mytwoloves

School is out and the kids are ready to have fun this summer! AHHH but the darn gas prices are still to high for me! So I went out and bought my daughter a new bike - my son got one last week! What a mistake that was -lol. Now  they want to go bike riding three times a day and my butt is killing me! I need a gel seat. I just can't say no to them and they are too young to ride by themselves. Its been hard riding in town and we have only found one trail around here so far- I think I will see if there are snowmobile trails around - there should be!

The van is going to be leaving me very soon - too many issues and I can't keep gas in it. I have always loved the vans but I think I have decided to go with a small 4 cylinder!

I found a neat little summer program down at the park and the kids both went today for a bit. Kas went on her first trip yesterday and she had a blast! I think I will like the program its only for a few hours a day and its free except for the field trips. Tomorrow they are going to the water park and the kids are excited. It will be cheaper for me to send them there with the program rather than going ourselves. I can also go on a few trips myself- so I think it will turn out great!

I took Tonya's idea and I am planning a little camping trip with Dylan- lets see if i can do it! Thank you Tonya for putting that idea in my head! I hope if I make it it turns out as great as your did!

The price of living is stoping us all from having fun. I hope you manage to have fun, somehow.

So true - what a bummer for the kids during summer break! It will all work out - it usually does! I often wonder how people still drive around all the time !  lol

We now have to rely on our ingenuity to come up fun things to do...how else can we do anything fun with the prices the way they are?  Bikes, skates, hikes, camping, picnics, programs (like the one you found), even just doing some fun things out in the yard sometimes can fill in the "gaps".  The program for the kids sounds great...they will have fun, it certainly is within the budget, and you can join in sometimes...that's neat!  Sometimes libraries have summer programs, or maybe some other organization, or maybe some kind of fair or festival is coming into town with little or no admission.  Whatever you do, just have fun!

Thank you donnamg - we are actually having a great time so far! I always get upset over the small things and then it all works itself out in the end! The program is better than I could have imagined - Kassidy was upset this weekend because she couldn't go! They went to Boston on Monday and took a tour on the duck boats- boats that go on land and water! So the kids are enjoying themselves! My son has even made some nice friends and the program director took him under her wing!

You can do it and if you need help with any of the plans, let me know.  That summer program sounds great!  Our boys and girls club has something similar but my kids don't like to go there.  I hope you are able to get a great little car.  Giving up a van would be so hard!

Okay I am going to "try" to take him out for one night next week! Boy what did I get myself into! lol  I have never even set up a tent! I am going to look into it this week! If its only for a night I think I can wing it! I just hope it goes as nice as your camping trip did!

I'm glad you're finding fun things to do that don't cost money. It is so tough this summer. We're supposed to go on a camping trip to Yellowstone National Park. I think it'd be smarter to stay home and go to a hotel with a pool!

Have a great time with those cute kids - Cami
