Took the kids up to Saco River on Friday to spend a few hours with some friends - I am thankful I did bring them a change of clothes and a few sweet shirts because we ended up staying til late Sunday night! The kids had a blast - what kids wouldn't - no change of clothes no tooth brush - no shower! But I was really roughing it out there - but I hung in there for the kids! They spent most of the time in the pool and riding around on mini bikes! Kassidy loved the fire flies and at night all the kids went into the field and caught a bunch of them and put them in a bottle for a few minutes and then set them free! Great children didn't want to kill the bugs. :) On Sunday before we left someone had the great idea of " lets drive up the road a few minutes and leave one vehicle here and tube down the river." So all eight of us went over to the camp store and grabbed tubes for all of us- get to the river and we forgot to buy Kassidy one- so we pull into the Family Dollar and get one for her. Get to the river and see that her tube is the size of a slipper and have to run to grab a real tube. Now the tubes were fine for the kids and the adult women but the two men that were there - NOT! So what the heck we only drove up five minutes from the campground - so lets really rough it! All get into the tubes all but for one who was just too large for it and he had flipped his tube in the ice cold mountain water - so he had too place his belly in the tube and stick it out that way! Everything is fine the first 5-10-15 minutes down stream - then 30 minutes 1 hour this is no joke - we see some people on the shore and they tell us Saco River Camp is 5 hours more down! How the heck is that even possible! :) Well 5 1/2 hours later we make it back to camp! Kids are starving - all we drank was the water in the river! lol So the next time someone asks to jump on a tube I will think twice about that one!
We are going back up on Friday for the weekend. But I will be prepared this time- and NO tubing for me! :)
Hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th!

Ohhhh, that sounds like sooooooo much fun!!!! That reminded me a lot of the kind of vacations I went on as a kid... up to NH to enjoy the rivers and the lakes (bone-chilling water sometimes), but we didn't rough it quite so rough...we stayed in the barest necessities type of cabins, the closest thing to camping there is. The kids had a blast, isn't that great!
It was a blast - I am packing today to head out tomorrow the right way! With tents and some blankets and maybe I'll bring some clothes this time! :) And yes the water was BONE CHILLING! We will never forget that! I actually think that trip was the best we have ever had- no plans -just winging it!
What a great experience and one they and you will never forget! See you can camp!
Yes I can camp with a group f people- I still have not ventured out on my own with my son! That is a must do before the end of summer! I really want to experience that one on one time with him! Maybe before his father takes him away for a few weeks we can get one night in!
